Born Olufela Olesegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti, Fela was a Nigerean born multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and composer. A pan-Africanist and known polygamist, Fela’s was no stranger to controversy with his music touching on all subjects from religion to politics. One of the biggest criticism that Fela had of the then Nigerian government was its’ ill treatment of it’s own people. Fela blamed the socio-economic issues on the remnants of colonialism.
Fela’s music has been largely revived on the mainstream with the new wave of young pan-Africanists who have found his message to resonate with their mission. Felabration is corroborated event that happens all over the world to celebrate the life, times and art of a man who shaped African music.
